Exam Highlights
UGC NET Exam is an online exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) twice a year(tentatively in June and December) for the Eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) & Eligibility for Assistant Professor both in Indian Universities and Colleges.
UGC NET Eligibility:-
Academic Qualification
Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks in Master Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognised by UGC in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science etc. are eligible for this Test.
The Other Backward Classes(OBC) belonging to non-creamy layer/Scheduled Caste(SC)/Scheduled Tribe(ST)/ persons with disability(PwD) category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks in Master s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.
Candidates who are pursuing their Master’s degree or equivalent course or candidates who have appeared for their qualifying Master s degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited or candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this test. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for award of Junior Research Fellowship/eligibility for Assistant Professor only after they have passed their Master’s Degree OR equivalent examination with at least 55% marks (50% marks in case of OBC falling in Non-Creamy layer/SC/ST/PwD (persons with disability)) category candidates. Such candidates must complete their Masters degree or equivalent examination within two years from the date of NET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.
The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master s level examination had been completed by 19th September 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e. from 55% to 50%) for appearing in NET.
Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their post graduation only. The candidates, whose post graduation subject is not covered in the list of subjects, may appear in a related subject.
Age Criteria
There is no maximum age limit for candidates taking UGC NET exam for the post of Assistant Professor.
There is an age limit for candidates going for Junior Research Fellowship. For them, the maximum age limit is 30 years. It is relaxable by five years for female candidates SC/ST/OBC/PWD. Maximum age limit is also relaxable up to five years for candidates with an LLM degree and those with research experience.

Candidates need to register themselves at the official website with their names, email IDs and valid mobile numbers. After successful registration, their application form number and password will be generated. Candidates need to re-login the website and enter their personal details, academic details, contact information, choice of program, work experience details and exam centre. Now, they need to upload the scanned images of their recent passport-sized photographs (Dimension of image: 3.5cm X 4.5cm File size: 4KB – 40KB) and signature (Dimension of image: 1.5cm X 3.5cm File size: 1KB – 30KB) with the latest specifications mentioned in the website.
UGC NET Exam Pattern
The test will have 2 papers. Both of these papers are compulsory for final selection.
Paper 1 will test the candidate’s ability in the following:
Teaching Aptitude, Research Aptitude, Reading Comprehension, Communication, Reasoning ability (Including Mathematical),Logical Reasoning, People And Environment, Data Interpretation, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Higher Education System (Governance, Polity And Administration)
Paper 2 will cover the syllabus according to the respective subject the candidate has chosen.

CSIR NET Exam Pattern
- Exam Conducting Body – National Testing Agency (NTA)
- Test is conducted for – Science Students who are having M.Sc. or MBBS or BS/MS or B-Tech qualification.
- Subjects in which Test is conducted – Life Sciences, Chemical Science, Mathematical Science, Earth Science and Physical Science.
- The CSIR NET Exam Paper is divided into 3 sections – Part A, Part B, and Part C.
Part A – It is common to (for) all subjects.
In this section, candidates’ talent is measured on the basis of their key skills in General Science, Quantitative Reasoning & Analysis, and Research Aptitude.
Type of Questions – MCQ.
Part B – Subject-Related Conventional MCQs with less difficulty level.
Type of Questions – MCQ.
Part C – Higher Value Subject Related Questions that test the candidate’s scientific knowledge.
The questions shall be of analytical nature where a candidate is expected to apply the scientific knowledge to arrive at the solution to the given scientific problem.
Type of Questions – MSQ (Multiple Select Questions)
CSIR UGC NET Chemical Sciences
- Part A, B, and C will have 20, 40, and 60 questions respectively out of which candidates have to answer a maximum of 15, 35, and 25 questions.
- Each question will have four alternatives or responses. Only one of them will be the correct response.
- Questions in Part A, B, and C will be of 2, 2, and 4 marks respectively.
- There will be negative marking for incorrect answers(One-fourth of marks).
CSIR UGC NET Earth Sciences
- Part A, B, and C consist of 20, 50, and 80 questions each out of which candidates have to answer a maximum of 15, 35, and 25 questions each.
- Part A and B consist of 2 mark questions and for wrong answers, 0.5 marks will be deducted.
- Part C consists of questions of 4 marks each and for every wrong answer, 1.32 marks will be deducted.
CSIR UGC NET Life Sciences
- Part A, B, and C consist of 20, 50, and 75 questions each out of which candidates have to answer a maximum of 15, 35, and 25 questions each.
- For each question, there will be four alternate responses out of which only one is the correct answer.
- Part A, B, and C consist of questions of 2, 2, and 4 marks each.
- Incorrect answers will result in the deduction of 25% marks
CSIR UGC NET Mathematical Sciences
- Part A, B, and C consist of 20, 40, and 60 questions out of which candidates are expected to answer 15, 25, and 20 questions in Part A, Part B, and Part C respectively.
- Each question will have four alternative responses. In Part A and Part B, only one response will be correct but questions in Part C can have more than one correct response.
- Credit will only be awarded only when the exact number of correct responses is marked.
- There will be 25% marking for Part A and B but negative marking is not applicable for Part C.
CSIR UGC NET Physical Sciences
- Part A, B, and C consist of 20, 25, and 30 questions each out of which candidates are expected to answer a maximum of 15, 20, and 20 questions respectively.
- Each question will have four alternative responses out of which only one will be correct.
- 25% marks will be deducted for wrong answers.
ASSAM SLET

Eligibility Criteria
- Indian Nationals having a Masters Degree or equivalent with a minimum of 55% marks will be eligible to apply for this exam.
- Candidates from SC / ST/ PWD/ OBC categories will require only 50% marks in the qualifying exam.
- Candidates appearing the final year exam of the qualifying degree are also eligible. There is no age limit.
Assam SLET Exam Pattern
Exam Pattern:
- There will be two papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2.
- The exam will consist of multiple-choice questions and the question will be based on Objective Type, Matching, Assertion and Reasoning, and True and False
Paper Wise Pattern:
- Paper I – Based on the general subject, applicants will be assessed on teaching/research aptitude. It
will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general
awareness of the candidate. - Paper-II – It will be objective type with each question for 2 marks. There will be no negative marking. The exam will be held in two sessions.
